What we do, and what you do

We do

  • Ask you questions and fill in the official forms for your county.
  • Give you the completed forms as PDF and Word, to keep and re-download.
  • Tell you where and how to file, with the clerk's address, hours and fees.
  • Explain the deadlines and the sequence in plain English.

We do not

  • File anything with any court. You file it, in person, by mail or through your court's e-filing system.
  • Serve papers on anyone.
  • Appear at your hearing or speak for you.
  • Give legal advice, or tell you whether to bring the case at all.

Court filing fees and service fees are paid to the court or the server, never to us, and are not included in anything you buy here. How to file, step by step →

We prepare the forms. We do not file them.

EvictWeb fills in court forms from your answers and hands them back to you. We do not file anything with any court, we do not serve papers on anyone, and we do not appear at your hearing. Those are acts in your own case, which a court requires you or your attorney to carry out, and we are neither.

We will tell you how and where to file, and we publish clerk addresses, hours and fees for county courts across the country. Taking the papers in is yours to do. Here is how, step by step.

Court filing fees and service fees are paid to the court or the process server, never to us, and are not included in anything you buy on this site.

EvictWeb is an information and self-help website. It is not a law firm, it does not provide legal advice, and using the site does not create an attorney–client relationship.

Use of the document tools is governed by our Terms of Use, which you are asked to accept before using them. We strive to keep forms and generated documents accurate and current, but we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness or currency of any form or document, or that it is the right one for your situation or accepted by your court.

Laws vary and change

Landlord-tenant law differs from state to state and sometimes city to city, and it changes frequently. Notice periods, required wording, service methods, filing fees and court forms described or generated on this site may not be correct for your situation. Always check the current law and your court’s requirements.

Generated documents

Documents produced by our wizards and form generators are general templates based on your answers. Review them carefully. Where your court or state requires an official form, use the official form.

General-format documents

Where we have no official form to fill in, the Court Forms Wizard can produce an EvictWeb general-format complaint, notice or answer. These are not official court forms — ask the clerk whether your court requires its own form.

Filled-in official court forms

The Court Forms Wizard copies your answers into the official PDF forms we have on file for your county. We don’t check your answers, we can’t guarantee that a form is the current version or the right form for your case, and some items are left blank for you to complete by hand. Read every page, correct anything that is wrong, sign where required and ask the court clerk how to file.

Court details and official forms

Court clerk details and official forms were compiled from public sources and may be out of date. Confirm addresses, phone numbers, hours and fees with the clerk before filing.
